The company Avenue-Colombie is a franco-colombian company based in Isère. In Colombia, it leans on its own administrative interface based in Bogota and charged, among others, of relations with
the various actors (suppliers, carriers, administrations). Finally,
these two entities are completed by network of consulting and
collaborating people in diverse points of the country and covering a
wide field of skills (scientists, jurists, historians, journalists,
diverse NGO, etc.).
Our objectives
This
site is first of all a reaction to the way Colombia is treated in the
main French media. The situation was not brilliant before the
"Ingrid Bétancourt" affair but since we reached
summits of stupidity.
Avenue-Colombie
intents to show you another Colombia and for that we chose an
original way. Indeed there are already various sites on internet
which praise the Colombian way of life as well as the diverse natural
and cultural resources of this country. Also there are various sites
of information, so-called alternative, where the expressed points of
view are very different from those conveyed by the main media. There
are also e-commerce sites which propose diverse items of Colombia
craft, mostly under the banner of the fair trade.
As
none of these sites fully satisfied us we decided to make our own
synthesis. Avenue-Colombie is thus neither a site of political
information, neither a site of touristical promotion, not only an
ordinary or a fair trade e-commerce site but you will find
information about various aspects of Colombia, from nature to
culture, the political situation and naturally the craft. We
want to show you that Colombia is not populated only with guerrillas
and paramilitaries, corrupt politicians,
bandits, cocaine traffickers, large landowners,
farmers chased away by their ground, natives and union activists who
are murdered with impunity, of quite powerful multinationals, even if
all this exist, unfortunately
There
is also a civil society which by many sides is more modern than those
of our old western democracies, at least more dynamic. There are for
example still alive journalists who make their job, including in the
main daily papers which we cannot consider as progressive,
independent magistrates, a certain left wing which gained few
victories, native communities trying to survive, associations making
excellent field work in diverse domains and common citizens who dream
about another Colombia. In brief, as would have said Pierre Dac, if
things were not what they are it would be quite different Our
shop is both a way to sustain our project and a practical way to
bring some of Colombia to you until you went towards her. Our relationship in the business belongs certainly to
the sphere of " fair trade " but our own approach
deviates a little from the freeway; indeed, it leaves from the producing
country and not from a customers country (cf. Fair business and
sustainable development).
Craft
is much more than trade products, it conveys traditions and the
efforts of people to maintain them living beings. We hope to make you
share our passion for this craft still little known in Europe.
